We’re in the thick of the holiday season and there just aren’t enough hours in the day! By the time supper rolls around, most of us just want to sit down to a tasty meal without having to work too hard. Thank goodness for slow cooker meals! Coming home after a long day, knowing dinner is waiting on you, can turn a bad day around again. This time of year I use my slow cooker for everything from a simple soup and sandwich night in, to entertaining for big groups and now I’ve developed a new Swiss Steak recipe that my family keeps asking for over and over.

What is Swiss Steak?
I think every family has their own definition of what “Swiss Steak” is to them, but growing up, my dad would tenderize steak, roll it in flour, pan fry it, then finish it with gravy. The Swiss-style part comes into play by essentially just rolling or pounding the meat before braising it and your slow cooker will take care of the braising for you.
Plus, with all the peppers, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms and seasonings floating around in there, this Swiss Steak recipe is loaded with delicious flavor! I love dishes like this because they allow you to use an inexpensive cut of beef—like round steak—and really make it into something special.

Slow Cooker Swiss Steak

Ingredients
- 3 lb round steak, cut into 6 portions
- 1 (28-oz) can diced tomatoes, with juice
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 medium white onions, diced
- 8 oz white button mushrooms, sliced
- 1 tsp garlic salt
- salt and pepper
- cooked white rice
Directions

Spray slow cooker with nonstick spray.

Season steak with salt, pepper and garlic salt.

Place in slow cooker.

Pour tomatoes on top.

Add peppers, onions and mushrooms.

Cook on LOW 8 hours.

Serve over hot white rice.
