It's 11 a.m. on a Tuesday and the drive-through line snakes around in a circle. Inside Hattiesburg's new Steak 'n Shake, the store is packed.
For those who love shakes and burgers, Steak 'n Shake has finally arrived in Hattiesburg. It's first day open was Monday.
The restaurant is located on U.S. 98 near Cross Creek Parkway — where TGI Fridays used to be. It's now open — apparently to the delight of many.
Nicole Banks was looking forward to the opening as long as six months ago — according to her post on Steak 'n Shake's Hattiesburg Facebook page.
"We have fasted and prayed and our prayers have been answered!" she wrote. "It is coming to Hattiesburg, MS....I can't wait!!!"
Steak 'n Shake corporate tore down the TGI Friday building and built a new facility for the restaurant.
New concrete paving was installed for the parking lot and the interior has drywall, acoustical ceilings, paint, tile and mechanical, engineering and plumbing systems.

But none of that matters to Alana Cece Carpenter-Parker who responded to Banks' post:
"Glory Hallelujah. Thank you precious Lord Jesus Christ....There's a miracle in the room with my name on it."

According to the eatery's website, Steak 'n Shake was founded in February 1934 in Normal, Illinois. The founder Gus Belt is said to be the pioneer of premium burgers and milk shakes.
For more than 85 years, the company's name has stood for the food it served.
The word "steak" stood for steak burger. The term "shake" meant hand-dipped ice cream milk shakes.
As the story goes, Belt wanted his customers to know they were eating the finest food. He reportedly would wheel in a barrel of round, sirloin and T-bone steaks and grind the meat into burgers in front of the guests.
This practice led to the restaurant's slogan — "In sight it must be right."
With Steak 'n Shake's more than one dozen flavors of milkshakes, it might be hard to decide. So, try the revolutionary side-by-side shake.
It's two flavors in one — separated in a neat line down the middle of the glass. Choose from flavors strawberry, chocolate, banana and vanilla.
