You still have time to hop on the Veganuary bandwagon, and there are so many new plant-based menu items to try out before you decide if you want to live that #vegan life indefinitely. One such item is the new watermelon steak that is now available at TGI Fridays and is exactly what you think.
This menu item—which is going for $17, Yahoo! Lifestyle reports—is now available at TGI Fridays locations in the UK. TGI Fridays UK has an entire section of their site dedicate to Veganuary and also lists drink options for those participating in Dry January too.
The watermelon steak is a slice of melon seasoned with garlic and sriracha. The slice is then chargrilled to resemble the look of an actual steak. This entree comes with seasoned fries and roasted vegetables, as well as with classic TGI Fridays dipping glaze on the side. The legendary sauce has always been vegan, according to their website.
Watermelon steak is actually a pretty common vegan alternative to actual meat. A quick Google search shows there are tons of ways to cook a watermelon slice to resemble meat, and this may be because the watery fruit can be seasoned or dressed to taste like pretty much anything.
Besides the watermelon steak, there are tons of vegan menu items available to patrons at TGI Fridays in the UK. There are plant-based burgers and veggie fajitas as main courses, and a bunch of appetizers such as pineapple and jalapeño edamame or smoked tomato bruschetta.
In a world where fast food seems to be taking over the plant-based scene, it's nice to know that vegans can enjoy a satisfying meal at a casual sit down chain like TGI Fridays. Rejoice!
